Incline bench press
A barbell press on a 30-45 degree bench that puts more work on the upper chest and front shoulders. Use safety arms or a spotter.

How to do it
- Set the bench to about 30-45 degrees and the safety arms just below chest height.
- Grip slightly wider than shoulders, shoulder blades back and down, and unrack over your upper chest.
- Lower under control to the upper chest and press up and slightly back over the shoulders.
Common mistakes
- Setting the bench so steep that it becomes a shoulder press.
- Bouncing the bar off the chest or lifting the hips off the bench.
