Box squat
A back squat to a box that teaches consistent depth and hip drive.
- Muscle group: Legs
- Equipment: Barbell
- Difficulty: Intermediate
Also known as: Squat to box, Box back squat, Squat til kasse, Knæbøj til kasse, Squat mod bænk
How to do it
- Place a sturdy box behind you at a height that gives about parallel depth, and unrack the bar on your upper back.
- Push your hips back, sit down with control onto the box and keep your shins fairly upright.
- Stay tight, pause lightly without relaxing, then drive through the feet and stand up.
Common mistakes
- Dropping onto the box and rounding the back when you sit.
- Rocking back to build momentum instead of staying braced.
